Second Tray for Victims of hurricane Ike

To all Parishioners:

At the request of Metropolitan Alexios, a second tray will be passed this Sunday, October 5, 2008,  for the victims of Hurricane Ike.  The collection will be sent to the Metropolis of Atlanta to the attention of Mrs. Dee Nicolaou, Chairman of the “Disaster Relief Committee,” who will forward the moneys directly to
the Metropolis of Denver for assistance to the victims of the hurricane.

Please make checks payable to Holy Transfiguration with the note:  Hurricane Ike.

The August Panegyri - Saturday, August 16

Honoring the Feastday of the Dormition of the Theotokos and following a Greek Tradition of Celebration we will hold a Feast (Panegyri) tomorrow Saturday, August 16 on the grounds of our church at Holy Transfiguration. The celebration will begin with a Vespers Service in the Chapel of our church at 5:00 pm. A celebration with food and music will follow. Join us and enjoy!

The Feast-Day of our Parish

August 6 is the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord on Mount Tabor - This is the Feast-Day of our Parish

Great Vespers will be celebrated on Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm, presided by Metropolitan Alexios. A reception with a Lenten meal will follow the Vespers service.

Orthros will be celebrated on Wednesday morning, August 6 at 9:00 am followed by the Divine Liturgy at 10 am. A reception with coffee-hour will follow the Divine Liturgy.

Beginning of the Lent of August

This Friday, August 1st, we enter a special period of the Ecclesiastical Year. It is a period of honor for the Virgin Mary, the mother of our Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ.

This Friday, we begin the Fast of August.
Oil and wine is allowed only on Saturdays and Sundays. Fish is allowed on August 6 for the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord.
On Friday Afternoon we also begin the Supplication Service to the Theotokos  6:00 pm

Lenten Lecture on the Role of Holy Icons

Join us this coming Wednesday, April 16, for the last presentation in the series "Theology and Life".

Fr. Panayiotis will delve into the topic of the role of Holy Icons in Orthodox Worship. He will highlight the Icons we use during Holy Week and Pascha and discuss their various elements and aspects.
